What can I expect from therapy?
- Once you have decided to see a therapist, it is still very common that you might feel nervous before your first few sessions. Often new clients report feeling anxiety before the first session, and I want you to know that is totally normal.
- Therapy is a place that is set apart for you to get a fresh perspective and find healing. It is a collaborative journey that you and I walk together. And although we do walk together, the journey is ultimately yours and you get to make your own decisions. As your therapist, I will not have all the answers to all your concerns, but I will carefully listen to you and ask thoughtful questions to help understand the answers you seek.
- In therapy you can expect to be respected. I will offer their insights and suggestions; and ultimately, I will honor your decisions.
How will I know if you are the right therapist for me?
- The best way to know the answer to this question is to come in for a session. This will help you get a sense of whether I am a good fit to help you.
- I like to say it’s kind of like coffee… Not everyone likes coffee, some people prefer water or soda and we would never shame someone for not liking coffee! Every therapist is different and I want to connect you with one that fits best with you.
What happens at the first session?
- At the beginning of the first session, we will go over some paperwork. After that it is a chance for you to share your story. You are welcome to share all of your story or just parts of your story, whatever you feel most comfortable sharing. We will talk about your goals and what you would like to see change.
How long do appointments last?
- Each session lasts 50-60 minutes.
How often will we meet?
- At the start of therapy, I prefer to meet with you once a week. However, I understand that sometimes life happens, or your budget will not accommodate that frequency. So, I will work with you to understand your goals and establish a system to address your concerns at a pace that will be the most effective for you.
